When Did the Olympics Stop Being Optimistic?
2/16/10 3:35 PM
Just like the rest of the world, I've been glued to my television watching the Olympics all weekend. Sure, there have been the usual corny uplifting aspects during these years' games (sparkly figure skating costumes, a bizarre opening ceremony and cheesy McDonald's commercials), but I've noticed a lot more negativity surrounding the coverage of the Vancouver games than in previous years. There's the drama surrounding Johnny Weir and the PETA "threats" made against him. There's the snarky bi-athelon commentators that count athletes out when the contest has barely started. And of course, there's 21-year-old Nodar Kumaritashvili, the Olympic luger who died last Friday, right before the games began. Was it really necessary for NBC to play the accident...Help Get FCLC's Library Hours Extended!

Last night, for the first time in ages, I made my way down to the Quinn Library to try to get some work done far away from the draw of my television and re-runs of MTV's "Jersey Shore." Sadly, after a mere thirty minutes of writing my paper (Okay, I was actually procrastinating on Facebook) the lights flashed on and off signaling that it was time for the library to close. After the mild seizure I sustained from the flashing lights, I gathered my belongings and made my way to my room with my paper unfinished. I had completely forgotten that the library hours had been cut! There's no way that the average college student is done with all the work she has to do by the time midnight rolls around. If you feel the same way and want to get Quinn's hours extended to last...Jesus Christ Has No Place in the Justice System

A 59-year-old woman legally named Jesus Christ was excused from serving jury duty in Alabama last week. She apparently was "disruptive" and refused to answer questions during jury selection. In my humble opinion, that doesn't seem very Christ-like. Just sayin'.
J.C. was originally known as Dorothy Lola Killingworth, but legally changed her name to the holy moniker recently.
Now, I have nothing against the Messiah, but I feel like changing your name to his as an homage could get confusing in day-to-day life, no matter how down you are with G-O-D. What say you?
"Nothing Tastes as Good as Skinny Feels"
11/13/09 11:45 AM
Kate Moss has come under criticism for comments that she made during a recent Women’s Wear Daily interview. When asked if she has used a specific mantra in her long career in the fashion world, Moss replied: “There are loads. There’s ‘Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.’ That’s one of them. You try and remember, but it never works.” By the looks of it, it seems that Kate is doing just fine in the looking thin department, perhaps due to her hard partying lifestyle. Though I can’t sanction all of Moss’s past choices (Pete Doherty anyone?), I really don’t understand the backlash against thin models in the fashion industry who acknowledge that they can’t chow down on everything in sight and maintain their...Can Anyone Get a Reality Show Now?

Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth of Apprentice pseudo-fame, is getting together with Trump yet again for another reality show. This time, though, it's not to find her a job, but to find her love. The show will be called Omarosa's Ultimate Merger and will pair the possibly post-op tranny (don't quote me on that) with twelve (un)lucky men. The most surprising part of this news bulletin? Not the fact that television stations have sunk to a new lower low with this program, but the fact that Omarosa is a seminary student! Really, Omarosa? You're all about God? I'm pretty sure verbally bitch slapping people on reality television doesn't count as a religious activity....
