When students return to school in the fall, they will have one more Global Outreach (GO!) project to choose from: GO! Chicago – set for winter 2014.

According to Stephen McGowan, coordinator of Global Outreach at Fordham College at Lincoln Center (FCLC), the project will focus on issues of injustice in Chicago different from those in the Camden and New Orleans projects.

“We wanted a project that has the potential to focus on LGBTQ rights. We’re looking to have a little bit of focus on that in connection with urban poverty and racism,” McGowan said.

Speaking about how Chicago was chosen, McGowan said, “I was at a conference last summer at DePaul University, and I met an organization there that did similar work to our Romero Center here.”  He has since kept in touch with that organization, and an opportunity opened for the winter of 2014.

All of the details about GO! Chicago are not set-in-stone yet. McGowan said the trip should be finalized in about a month. Until then, both the names of the project leaders and of the organization that the project will be working with are being kept confidential.
