Facilities Manager, McMahon Hall

Dear Observer editorial staff,

Your October 8, 2009 edition has an article titled “Students find fault with Facilities” and continued on the next page, the article is titled “Facilities Malfunctions Cause Student Strife.”

However only 1 of the 3 residents interviewed about bites actually contacted me, Leslie Timoney, the Facilities’ manager of McMahon Hall.  One resident’s mother called the Dean, who contacted me and I responded to her apartment immediately.  I found dried flowers hanging from the walls and 6-7 flies around the apartment.  I told the residents to throw out the dead flowers and I would return with the proper fly trap.  When I returned, most of the flies were gone and the traps caught 2 more flies.  The 2nd resident notified me, completed the first step of the pest control program, and never had another bite.  The third resident, who is quoted extensively, never contacted me and refused to give the location where she received her bite.

I feel I need to write this second rebuttal because the pursuit of bug complaints is unique to your editorial staff and not actual complaints received through the proper McMahon procedures.  Residents with pest complaints need to fill out a work order and follow the procedures I suggest to remove the bugs from their living space.  Complaining to parents or the Observer doesn’t solve the problem.  I urge any McMahon resident with any problems within their suite to see me, Leslie Timoney, in room 103, by the elevators.  If I’m not in my office, complete a work order form in Residential Life.
