Faith Heaphy is a senior majoring in communication and media studies with a focus in journalism and a minor in business administration. She began writing for the Observer her sophomore year of college and held the position of assistant features editor and then managing editor her junior year. She interned at NBC and Fox News as a junior. At Fordham, Faith enjoys giving campus tours and leading her Christian Life Communities group. She’s addicted to chocolate, likes to run, loves interviewing people and is excited to work with such a talented editorial board this year!

Monique John is a junior majoring in communication and media studies with a minor in African and African-American studies. She began writing for the Observer in fall 2009, and later became a staff writer for its news and opinions sections. Monique enjoys writing about race politics, women’s rights, and arts and culture; she has also participated in numerous student programming and social justice projects such as Molimo, FCLC’s Black Cultural Club, Urban Plunge and Global Outreach! Immokalee, Florida. Monique will also be interning in Cosmopolitan Magazine’s editorial department this fall.

Colleen Thornhill is a senior majoring in history as well as communication and media studies with a concentration in film. When not writing her articles at the very last minute, you can find her watching old movies in preparation for her goal of becoming a film historian. And yes, she knows that means she’ll probably be broke, but she’s pretty OK with it.

Darryl Yu is a senior majoring in economics and minoring in communication and media studies. Aiming to go to law school after Fordham, he hopes to become a corporate lawyer in the future. Although his goal is to enter the legal profession, Darryl has always been passionate about telling stories through his writing. Being a huge “foodie,” he hopes to uncover New York City’s hidden gems through his new food column “Word of Mouth.” The former sports editor of the Observer, he looks forward to the year ahead as features co-editor. Darryl also plays the drums and was part of a metal band in his home city of Hong Kong.

Mario Weddell is a senior majoring in visual arts and communication and media studies. He began writing for the Observer during his sophomore year. He has contributed articles to almost every section, as well as photographs, and has a column in the Features section. He spends too much time thinking up corny headlines and awful puns. During his junior year, he was a writer for Cliché Magazine. He is in the Honors Program at FCLC and enjoys photography, film-making, writing music and playing basketball.

Matt Petronzio is a senior majoring in English with a minor in creative writing. He started writing for the Observer during the fall of his sophomore year and became the assistant literary editor in spring 2010. He was the recipient of Fordham’s 2011 Academy of American Poets Prize and his poetry has been published in NAP Magazine. He has worked as the editor of College Magazine’s success section, an editorial/marketing intern at W. W. Norton & Company and an editorial intern at Guernica Magazine (for which he still contributes to the blog, Guernica Daily). He is currently working as an editorial intern for Mashable’s features team.

Amanda Fimbers is a sophomore majoring in communication and media studies. Amanda is also part of the executive board for RHA and an ambassador for the Lincoln Center Society. Her plans are to continue her studies and pursue a career in media.

She started writing for the Observer’s arts and culture section in fall 2010 and became the assistant online editor in spring 2011. Ariella has been developing a music magazine called Naked. It’s pretty dope.
Beata Cherepakhina is a senior majoring in communication and media studies with a concentration in journalism. She transferred to Fordham in the beginning of her sophomore year to pursue her interests in journalism. Since transferring she has been an assistant features editor and a features co-editor. She is excited to take on the challenge of being an online editor. She has previously interned with New York Family Magazine, Betty Confidential and Hungry Guides New York. In her spare time, Beata continues to feed her nail polish obsession and hopelessly cheer for the NY Jets.
