In the complex institutional structure of the American university, there is no relationship of greater importance than the one between professor and student. At Fordham, there are many professors who will guide us, acting as our advisers and mentors, helping us grow from timid freshmen to savvy seniors.

FINDING A LOST GENERATION

That’s great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane”—it’s the end of the world as we know it. Another aftershock shook Haiti on Feb. 15, knocking a boulder loose. The boulder fell on a school, killing four third-graders and injuring a fifth.

HALTED HOPES FOR HAITI

The earthquake and subsequent aftershocks that rocked Haiti on Jan. 12 brought out the best in people from all over the world. Doctors and good Samaritans mobilized quickly to provide aid in the relief effort. We’re hearing tales of heroism and amazing survivals every day—one teenage girl was rescued 15 days after the first quake.

The Price of Safety is Worth It

On Nov. 12, a man was arrested for attempting to trespass on the second floor plaza entrance into McMahon Hall.  “He attempted to accost the guard on duty… the guard on McMahon Hall desk came to the [plaza guard’s] aid,” said Thomas Mahony, Fordham College at Lincoln Center’s (FCLC) security duty supervisor.

Take Care of Yourself and Others

This time of year is often difficult. Summer has segued into a soggy, windy fall, midterms seem to be lingering for weeks on end and registration is around the corner. All of this is enough to deal with on its own, and any extra stress can be too much to handle.

TAKE CARE WITH HEALTH CARE

College goes by quickly and is relatively carefree. Four years pass in a blink, the last consisting of a blur of classes, internships, grad school applications and graduation prep. One thing that doesn’t get enough attention is health insurance.

STUDENTS SEEK BUDGET TRANSPARENCY

Some Fordham College at Lincoln Center (FCLC) students are angry, and rightfully so. More and more problems with the financial aid services offered by the school are coming to light. According to Ray Walsh’s article, “Ex-Students ‘Angry’ Over Financial Services Miscommunications,” multiple students were forced to transfer or drop out of school because of a lack of communication from financial services.

Living in New York City is expensive, but the cost of attending college in Manhattan is astronomical.  In the current economic climate, many students are finding it increasingly more difficult to make ends meet. Fiscal responsibility is falling to the students as their parents lose their jobs or take pay cuts, meaning students must find a way to pay for their living quarters, books, food, clothing and a number of other living expenses, including extra cleaning supplies as we come into the flu season. 1 comment
